If you’re looking for a primary plant for your large tank, the Giant Vallisneria (also known as the Vallisneria Gigantea) is a fantastic choice. Just like the other plants in the Vallisneria family, these plants will stand out with their dark-green colours and the fact that they are relatively easy to care for.
For whom is the Giant Vallisneria suited?
As the name suggests, the Giant Vallisneria is most suited for those with a large tank. Otherwise, a lot of trimming will be required. However, these plants are generally easy to care for, making them perfectly suitable for both beginners and more advanced aquarists alike.
What are they like?
What’s unique about the Giant Vallisneria is, as the name suggests, their impressive height. They can grow up to 6’5 feet in height at a rate of 0,4 inches per day! This makes them the ideal plant for those who have large aquariums and are looking for a primary plant to fill up the background space. Something that should be kept in mind is that these plants grow in cycles, meaning that for a few months, the Giant Vallisneria may experience rapid growth, while in others, they may barely grow at all. This is absolutely normal.
The ideal conditions for the Giant Vallisneria
The Giant Vallisneria is relatively forgiving when it comes to its growing environment. To thrive, they prefer a neutral pH at a temperature of 68 – 82 °F. They like soft to medium-hard water and will benefit significantly from occasional fertilizing.
