Weeping Moss

Weeping Moss is a really cool aquarium moss known for the way it grows downward instead of up and out like many other mosses. That hanging growth gives it an awesome look when attached to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium decor.

Like most mosses, Weeping Moss is pretty easy to care for and doesn't require CO2 or high lighting. It can be attached to hardscape or allowed to grow freely, making it super versatile depending on the look you're going for.

It's also a great addition to shrimp tanks! All of that dense moss creates extra surface area for shrimp to graze on and gives baby shrimp plenty of little places to hide.

Care Tips

  • Scientific Name: Vesicularia ferriei
  • Common Name: Weeping Moss
  • Care Level: Easy
  • Lighting Requirement: Low to medium
  • CO2: Not necessary
  • Propagation: Cut or separate portions and relocate them

Planting Weeping Moss

Weeping Moss doesn't need to be planted in substrate. Attach it to driftwood, rocks, or other aquarium decor and let it grow in. Its downward growth looks especially cool on branches or elevated hardscape where it has room to hang.
