'Harbich' is a long known Echinodorus cultivar, often also spelled 'Harbig', 'Harbii' or 'Harbych'. It reaches a maximum height of about 10" but stays small and compact underwater, and it grows slowly. Its leaves are roundish and heart-shaped. Good lighting provided, its newly appearing leaves show red-brown tones. The plant is usually delivered in its terrestrial (emersed) form, with considerably longer stalked leaves. Planted into the aquarium, it will develop its shorter stalked submerged foliage. Later the old emersed leaves can be removed.
Echinodorus 'Harbich' has no special demands on the water parameters but should be well supplied with macro- and micronutrients via the substrate. Also, a well-lit, open place is recommendable. The favorable temperatures lie between about 70 and 80F.
With its round leaf shape, this small Echinodorus provides an interesting accent in the aquarium. It looks best as a single plant or small group in the midground to the foreground.
